Calendar Design

This is a binary calendar. I understand only the basics of this number system, but after some close inspection, I figured out how this calendar works and it is quite clever. It only has the ability to tell the date (not the month or the day of the week) but I 'm ok with that. Every day you place the metal ball in the top right hole and it will slide down, activating certain pegs along the way to empty or fill the circles at the top to represent the date. It is a pretty elegant design and it is mechanically brilliant.

A wall sized calender seems like something I would enjoy to own. I constantly am writing myself notes and scribbles and would love to have an entire wall to keep my thoughts organized.

I like this desk calendar a lot, it is very simple but the wood and the cut-out numbers have a strong visual impact.

Creative Calendars - 1.26.12 - Amanda

I found a decent amount of creative calendars but these stood out the most to me.

When I first saw this I thought of an infographic, because of the bright colors and simple design.

I like this calendar because its different and makes me feel like I want to fold it together and see what I can create from it.

I really like this magnetic calendar, you can hang it up on the fridge kind of like those magnetic letters that we all played with as kids, I think its fun.

I found all these unique calendar designs on this website. They listed many images but these ones stood out to be the most because they don't look like normal calendars you would think of hanging on your wall or sitting on your desk. I particular think the chocolate bar calendar is a neat idea. Eating a piece of chocolate after each day, like eating the year away.

CALENDARS

I really like the way this calendar is set up. The colors are extremely vibrant on that black background and really catch my eye. It was also a cool idea to use the letter of the day to take up each box and to have the months listed vertically down the side.

I thought that this calendar was really neat. I like the fact that it opens up like that, rather than just being a normal, flat calendar. The part that I really like about it is that the colors above each month change according to that time of the year and what the weather is like. I thought that was very creative.

This calendar really caught my eye because it doesn't look like any other calendar I've ever seen before. I like how it looks a little chaotic and hectic, yet still serves as a calendar.

Jordan - Calendars

The first calendar that I found which I found to be unique was from http://rekord.cc/calendar2009/. The thing that I liked about this calendar was that instead of having the calendar days all boxed out the designer made it so that the first two letters would make up the box for that day. Another unique thing that I found about this calendar was that the days are laid out landscaped and go from the first to the last in one row.

The second calendar that I found which stood out to me was on http://www.flickr.com/photos/keso/2262459574/. This one looks like it was made by google. The thing that I like about this one was that it was made out of what looks like lego pieces. I think that its cool that they give you little symbols like an airplane if you have plans to travel or something like that. Its also pretty interactive because every month you would have to change the block so it can follow that month correctly.

The final calendar I found an image of it on http://www.flickr.com/photos/kateconsumption/2124695853/. This one is unique because I like the how it is illustrated by hand. It reminds me of the portraits of dead presidents on money, how they all have a frame around them along with the script of paper under them labeling the day.

3 Unique Calendars

I thought this was a neat idea. It's a magnetic calendar. This would be easy to use.

A lego desktop calendar. Fun idea and interesting piece to have in your office.

This is funny and different. It's a napkin calendar. Easy to get rid of the days that have passed.

This calendar shreds away each day after 24hours has passed. As explained on the website, it shows how precious time can be as each day goes by so quickly.

This is also a calendar that shows how precious time is as it passes by. The ink bleeds onto each day as the time passes by. Each number is printed daily until the end of the month when the ink is dry.

This calendar reminds me of our project. It has a title at the bottom and it says "Destination". The artist designed it typographically in a way that shows all the different directions in which the design is going, and it portrays the message of Direction in the quote.

This bubble wrap calendar is the coolest thing I have ever seen. Who doesnt love bubble wrap?

I am a partial pyromaniac and on a crappy day I would love to set fire to it at the end of the day.

Lottery ticket calendar. So cool. I'd feel like I was winning every day.

Anna - examples of calendars

This is a very large scale calendar based on just the day the date. So for every day you would flip the sign for another day and its date. This website also has some other clever examples of calendars.

I thought this is a great example of the current
project we are working on. Not so much the
subjects but the type of illustration and layout.

This calendar is made of matches so for every day that ends you pick off the match and light it which is pretty cool. It is also a calendar made for a Energy Company in Ukraine.

Here are some things I found inspiring pertaining to online portfolios. The first is a link to a portfolio that I found unique, and the second shows a bunch more portfolios that could be helpful to look at.
